'Skin' Exhibition, 23rd Feb - 2nd March. Sam Scorer Gallery, Lincoln.

Photography, Textiles (embroidery), Conceptual Textiles, Fine Art and Make-up Styling from the following exhibitiors and models:

Tessa Acti (Nottingham Trent University). Samantha Barker (Nottingham Trent University). Leah Barr. Vanessa Haines. Elly Lucas.Tom Martin (Central St Martins). Rick Nunn. Sian Revill. Georgina Robinson. Juliet Richmond (Lincoln University). Rebecca Sampson (Loughborough University). Emily Saunders (Nottingham Trent University)

For me, the theme of this exhibition focuses on the notion of skin as a blank canvas. A fragile, perfect and pure surface ready for the embellishments and objects we adorn it with. These adornments are to portray our individuality, our personality and our taste. Our skin provides the perfect background to these additions. The beauty in the pieces I have created for this Exhibition is the background – the simplicity of it enhances the detail of the hand embroidery.

This exhibition will be running from Weds 23rd Feb - Weds 2nd March 2011.

Open Weekdays and Sunday 10am - 4pm and Saturday 10am - 5pm

Sam Scorer Gallery, Lincoln, 5 Drury Lane, Lincoln, LN1 3BN.

Sneak peek of some of the pieces I will be exhibiting... Hope you find yourself in Lincoln to have a look!

Amsterdam!

Such an inspiring city!!! Here are a couple of my favourite pics from my weekend away! I love the eclectic architecture and canals and beautiful shops, definately one of my favourite cities. We also had a little jaunt to Rotterdam - very different to Amserdam, completely industrial, modern and had an intersting bleakness to it. It was a very fleeting visit to Rotterdam - definately a city I need to explore further!

Sam Scorer Gallery Exhibition 'Skin'

I have been working on a selection of pieces for an Exhibition being held at the Sam Scorer Gallery in Lincoln from 21st Feb - 6th March. This exhibition sees Artists and Designers from a variety of disciplines work on ther own pieces under the theme of 'Skin'. It is being curated and organised by my good friend and Stylist Samantha Barker. http://www.sammybarker.com/

If you happen to be in Lincoln, please do have a look! All the details are on the website below...

NEW YORK!

Well, it certainly was a incredibly inspirational visit! I have finally, after sorting and organising and uploading managed to show you a few images out of the many hundreds and hundreds I snapped whilst out there! I am only posting a few of my absolute favourites here, but if you would like to see a few more please have a look at my facebook page. The link is just to the right.... Also on my facebook page I have included some more photographs from the shoot featured in my last post. Please do have a look, they are some really beautiful pieces.

In other news... MORE technical difficulties leading to longer delays for my new website launch. I promise it will be worth the wait! In the meantime, whilst I'm stitching like a trouper, please do enjoy my NY pics! What a wonderful holiday it was!

A Few Taster Images...

Here are just a few taster images from a recent photoshoot I embroidered some pieces for. (see recent post '...And a Collaboration' for close ups of the embroideries) These are just a small snippet - I will be recieving some more images soon.
This photoshoot was Photographed by Georgina Robinson, Styled by Samantha Barker (http://www.sammybarker.com/), Make Up and Hair is by Sian Revill and the gorgeous model is Rebecca Sampson.

These images include pieces embellished by me - Embroidered Floral Knickers in the first image, a blue knitted top embroidered with my 3D Ruffle Flowers and beadwork in the second, third and fourth images (also have a look at the absolutely beautiful spider jewellery - by Amanda Coleman http://www.amandacoleman.co.uk/ - I am rather tempted by the brooches...) And the final pic shows a Butterfly embroidered scarf.

As mentioned beforehand, I expect a few more images from this beautiful shoot to follow soon, and I am also working on some more pieces for a different shoot for stylist Samanthat Barker due to take place in December. This pre-Christmas shoot is a very retro, fifties 'Club' shoot in order to promote Sam's website and Styling business. The embroidery I am doing for this shoot is very text based and graphical - a completely different style for me!

And as for the rather long time since my last post, I have been working very hard on updating my website... it's still a work in progress but watch this space!

....And a Collaboration!

This is a long awaited collaboration between myself and designer/stylist Sam Barker (she describes herself concisely as ‘A Creative’ which is a very accurate description of the eclectic work she does and interests she has.)

Using the pieces I have embroidered for her, Sam will be styling a photo shoot based around the theme of preservation capturing reality and unique moments as well as the fragility of nature. I was given this brief along with a collection of garments to embroider and embellish.

These images are just my own of the embroidery I used, but I am really really excited to see the images from the actual photo shoot (coming soon). Sam’s current plan is to style my pieces together with other complimentary garments and a very innovative use of make-up and location; it will be really interesting to see my embroideries in a different fashion context. Watch this space...

Two Commissions...

(Part Two)

This painting I did for my great friend as a piece to go in her brand new house. Although embroidery is my main focus, I also love to paint and illustrate. Sketchbooks continue to be a very important part of the way I work, and my embroidery always takes on an illustrative quality!

For further examples of my illustrations, please look at the portfolio section of my website.

I am currently in the very lengthy process of redoing my website, the new version will very much emphasize my love of illustration and how it is incorporated into my range of products.
